Oppo to Release Three Variants of the F5
Not too long ago, Oppo released the F3 Lite, a selfie-focused smartphone that packed quite a punch. Essentially, the F3 Lite was just a rebrand of the Oppo A57 which was launched in November 2016. What you got out of the box was an Android 6.0 handset, customised with Oppo’s ColorOS 3.0 skin. It featured a handy 5.2 Inch HD screen with 2.5D Curved Glass. It also featured a 1.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor that was coupled with 3GM of RAM.
The focus on the front camera and enhanced selfie capabilities is a trend that we are seeing more of in the smartphone market, as mobile phone photography becomes almost as popular as real money slots. Along with rear-facing fingerprint scanners and facial recognition, there is a clear indication that manufacturers are focusing heavily expanding the capabilities of the self-portrait, front facing camera.
Selfie-Focused Smartphones
Since the release of the F3, we have been waiting for the arrival of the Oppo F5, another device that looks set to capitalise on tech trends. Until now, we all thought Oppo was releasing a single unit. Now it seems, the Chinese manufacturer is launching three variants under the F5 series banner. Currently, all three variants, the Oppo F5, the Oppo F5 Youth and the Oppo F5 6GB is available for pre-order in Thailand. The F5 series is expected to be unveiled in a grand event taking place in the Philippines. We have all gotten a glimpse of the phone’s features thanks to a leaked poster showcasing the main features of Oppo’s new Smartphone range.
Leaked by Thailand’s OppoClub, the poster informs us that the Oppo F5 will come with enhanced selfie capabilities. The three F5 variants will carry the tag line “Capture the real you”. It also appears that the phones will come out AI tweaks that will be used to enhance self-portrait mode on the camera. Two of the three F5 variants; the Oppo F5 and the F5 6GB sport duel camera sensors on the front of the phone. The F5 Youth only seems to have a single sensor, and will most likely be the more affordable of the bunch.
6-Inch Display and 6GB of RAM
What we can see from the poster is that the Oppo F5 comes out with a minimal-bezel display. Sources also tell us that the phone will come with a 6-inch display with Full HD+ (1080×2160) resolution. The original F5 variant will come out with a standard 4GB of RAM while the F5 6GB will obviously come out with 6GB of Ram. It will also feature 64GB of storage that will sit alongside a microSD card, supporting up to 256GB.
The camera on the F5 is reported to come out with a 20-megapixal sensor on the rear of the camera and an LED flash. The F5 Youth will have a slightly lower quality sensor, topping out at 16-megapixals. All three F5 variants will come standard with software-based facial recognition for unlocking the phone as well as a rear-facing fingerprint scanner. After the launch on the 26th of October in the Philippines, Oppo is planning on hosting an event in India. Scheduled for November 2nd, the event is presumably to unveil the availability and more specifically the price of the F5 range of selfie-centric smartphones
