BigRock announces winners for its ‘being.desi’ Campaign
New Delhi, India, April 27 2015: BigRock, one of India’s leading domain registrars and web hosting companies, today announced the winners of its nationwide ‘being.desi’ campaign to launch the .DESI domain extension in the country. BigRock and .DESI had invited nominations from participants to share their ideas on what the ‘being.desi’ concept meant to them in the form of enticing visual stories. The campaign saw encouraging feedback from participants across India with submissions of over a thousand individual entries on the being.desi portal.
Ghaziabad based freelance artist and passionate traveller-Nishat Rehman’s entry was adjudged the winner of the campaign, winning the grand prize – a Hyundai Eon Magna Pluscar. Entries from Heena Shah-Dedhi and Sandy Bangera were declared the first and second runner-up to claim the iPad 3 Mini and Motorola Moto G (2nd Gen) smartphone respectively.

Nishat’s entry particularly impressed the jury as it stood out not only for what being desi meant to her but also for offering a kaleidoscopic view of our culturally infused country. Ultimately that is what we are trying to achieve with the .Desi domain and create a means through which an individual/organization can truly represent their local roots.”

Nishat’s entry in particular was a fiery canvas depicting her travels across India, etched on her Scooty and backpack, thus presenting a visual that highlights her journey into the country heartland.” Siddharth Ohri further added “We wanted to make a bold statement about India being home to one of the largest online communities globally with the being .desi campaign. Our aim is to unite them with the .Desi extension that offers unlimited opportunities without restriction by geography.”
