Latest Gartner Magic Quadrant for Secure Web Gateways Recognizes Websense as a Leader for Fifth Time
SAN DIEGO, July 8, 2014: Websense, Inc., a global leader in protecting organizations from advanced cyber attacks and data theft, today announced it has been recognized by Gartner Inc. as a leader in the “Magic Quadrant for Secure Web Gateways” for the fifth consecutive year. Websense industry-changing strengths continue to play a role in broad global adoption of Websense security gateways. These include: hybrid deployment options (on-premise and cloud-based); TRITON management console providing a common point for policy management, reporting and logging; data loss prevention (DLP) extended to the cloud; and the integration of Websense ThreatScope technology to automatically send suspicious files to a proprietary behavioral sandbox.
For the report, Gartner evaluated the Websense Web Security Gateway Anywhere (WSGA) solution, part of the TRITON solution architecture that provides advanced protection for web, email, data and mobile requirements. As organizations adjust to the new norm of advanced attacks, they are increasingly looking for solutions that protect from blended threats, while providing the actionable security intelligence required to advance their security programs.
One organization taking advantage of the benefits of WSGA on a massive scale isBrisbane Catholic Education (BCE). Using the Websense X10G™ appliance, BCE has centralized the web security management of 137 different locations, with nearly 45,000 daily users downloading almost a petabyte of data annually. “Many businesses would not generate anywhere near as much internet traffic as BCE. Websense enables us to provide a highly productive classroom environment with no barriers to learning,” said Simon Mackey, Manager, Operations and Network Services, BCE.
Armed with the enhanced visibility and security intelligence capabilities of TRITON WSGA, Mackey provides periodic reports to the BCE Leadership Team and Senior Management and Executives on performance, network issues and how effectively they are identifying threats. “It really brings it home to the BCE Leadership Team and Senior Management when you show, for example, malware has attacked our network with the aim of stealing credit card information. Telling people the story underlines the need for effective security,” said Mackey.
Websense offers customers a choice of cloud deployment or four purpose-built appliances for deploying Websense TRITON security products. Ranging in size from the US Dept. of Health and Human Services, which faces two million online attacks per month, to regional mid-market accounts such as HMS Host, thousands of organizations now use the intelligence derived from the Websense ThreatSeeker Intelligence Cloud, the world’s largest information security intelligence network to analyze, detect and stop today’s evolving threats.
Websense CEO John McCormack said, “With the propagation of advanced, data-stealing attacks, the majority of traditional stand-alone web security gateways are increasingly insufficient. We believe that this continued recognition from Gartner further validates Websense success in integrating web, email, mobile and data security into our TRITON solutions to share security intelligence and context across the cyber-security kill chain. Websense provides the security intelligence necessary to safeguard an organization from threats and attempts of intellectual property theft and proprietary data breaches. This fundamental difference in intelligence and solution strategy enables Websense customers increase their ability to defend against a constant ever changing security landscape.”
According to the report, “Leaders are high-momentum vendors (based on sales and mind share growth) with established track records in SWGs, as well as vision and business investments indicating that they are well positioned for the future.”
