The launch of ‘Digital India Week’ is a forward-looking move from the government which talks about empowering rural India by connecting villages , promoting Mobile Governance and catapulting local manufacturing of electronics. However making India Digital will require a dedicated push from the government, not only in form of vision statements but also with allocation of proper budgets for the IT sector in our country.
The idea to build ‘smart cities’ and beyond that the ‘smart nation’ will call for an effort at the micro as well as the macro level to encourage the adoption of new age technologies Social, Mobile, Analytics and Cloud (SMAC) that are transforming businesses, governments and nations into the Digital hubs.
IT innovation along with change management can accomplish the goal of ‘Digital India’ in its totality. In case of Government projects its necessary to make the need felt as the officials don’t find an obvious need to change their legacy systems. Meanwhile,Government should therefore look to introduce special monetary incentives for the Indian software product companies that invest heavily on research & development to create world-class software products. These are not only the major revenue streams to bring in foreign exchange and reducing fiscal deficit, but are also the technology assets that can make us a Digital Superpower.
