Uber launches exclusive pick and drop zones for Uber Autos at 5 Chennai Metro Stations

Uber unveiled five dedicated pick up and drop off zones for Uber Autos at five Metro Stations in Chennai. During the first phase of this initiative, the exclusive designated zones are set up at Guindy, Alandur, Egmore, Koyambedu, and Thirumangalam Metro Stations, enabling users to have an enhanced and seamless commute experience.

Since integrated public transport is an essential component for building smart cities, Uber’s vision is to provide an end-to-end, seamless experience to its users by integrating ridesharing with public transit options.

Commenting on the unveiling of these designated zones, Rajesh Chaturvedi, Director of Systems and Operations, Chennai Metro Rail Ltd, said, “We have always strived to provide seamless travel experience to our commuters. It means expanding our services through first and last mile connectivity. Our partnership with Uber is in line with this agenda, ensuring seamless and efficient mobility options for the commuters. By setting up these five dedicated pick up and drop off zones, our valued partner Uber has reaffirmed its commitment to riders’ comfort. With this, we hope to see many more people use the Metro service, leading to reduced road congestion over time.”

Commenting on this, Shiva Shailendran, Head of Cities Operations, Uber India South Asia, said “An efficient public transit infrastructure is the backbone of cities across India, and complementing that infrastructure with Uber’s safe, convenient and reliable rides can make cities a lot more accessible and sustainable. By making it easy to travel to and from metro stations, we can alleviate the need for parking and make first and last mile connectivity more seamless. We hope to scale up this initiative in the near future, in collaboration with our valued partner, CMRL.”
