Telegram Unveils Mini Apps 2.0

Telegram has introduced the largest update yet to its mini apps ecosystem, introducing a suite of powerful new features aimed at enhancing user experience and empowering developers. Mini Apps 2.0 delivers a wide array of improvements, including full-screen mode, geolocation access, home screen shortcuts, motion tracking, subscription plans and several innovative integrations.

Full-Screen Mode

Mini apps now support full-screen functionality in both portrait and landscape orientations. This enhancement provides developers with greater flexibility to create immersive interfaces, including complex game genres and expanded gesture controls.

Device Motion Tracking

Developers can now incorporate motion tracking, allowing mini-apps to interact with the movement of a user’s device. This opens up possibilities for unique controls in games or immersive VR experiences. To ensure optimal performance, developers can lock the screen orientation to prevent unwanted rotation.

Home Screen Shortcuts

Users can place direct shortcuts to specific mini apps on their device’s home screen, enabling quick, one-tap access to favourite games and services.

Geolocation Access

Mini apps now have the ability to request geolocation data, enabling location-based games, event maps and point-of-interest interactions. Users retain full control over their privacy and must explicitly grant location permissions to individual mini-apps.

Gifts from Apps

Mini apps can now send gifts to users as rewards for achievements. A new privacy setting allows users to control who can send them gifts, which will appear on their profile.

Emoji Statuses from Apps

Telegram Premium users can now set custom emoji statuses from within mini apps. Whether a user is gaming, travelling or reading, statuses update instantly based on app activity. Developers can also create custom emoji packs for mini-apps, amplifying engagement and creativity.

Media Sharing

Mini apps now support direct media sharing, allowing users to send referral codes, memes and other media to chats or post them to their stories.

Creating Documents

Mini apps are capable of generating downloadable documents and files, such as AI-generated profile pictures or audio files, further expanding their utility.

Subscription Plans

Developers can monetize mini-apps by offering subscription tiers using Telegram Stars. This allows users to unlock premium content and features. Telegram Stars earned can also be redeemed for additional benefits, including increased message limits and rewards.

Loading Screen Customization

Developers now have the ability to customize mini app loading screens via @BotFather. This includes adding custom icons and colours to create a tailored experience for users during app startup.

Device Hardware Info

To enhance performance and optimize graphics, mini apps can access basic hardware information such as processing power and memory capacity. This allows apps to adjust settings dynamically for smoother experiences.

With Mini Apps 2.0, Telegram continues to push boundaries, creating an environment for innovation, entertainment and utility.
