Telegram Rolls Out Rich Text Editor, Communities and Ephemeral Bot Messages in Major Feature Update
Telegram has rolled out a major update introducing a Rich Text Editor, Telegram Communities, Ephemeral Bot Messages, and an expanded GIF search with over 350 million GIFs. The latest features are designed to make communication more expressive, organized, intelligent and private while enhancing collaboration across groups and communities.
Rich Text Editor
Telegram has introduced a powerful Rich Text Editor that enables users to create beautifully formatted messages with support for headings, tables, lists, quotes, code blocks, and the ability to embed photos and videos directly within messages.
The editor features an intuitive visual interface and integrates Telegram’s Cocoon-powered AI tools, allowing Premium users to generate and refine content while maintaining privacy. Messages can now be up to 32,768 characters, making the editor ideal for detailed discussions, documentation and long-form content.
Telegram Communities
Telegram now allows multiple groups, channels and bots to be connected into Communities centred around a shared topic, making it easier for users to organize conversations and discover relevant chats.
Community members can instantly browse and join related chats, while administrators can choose whether chats remain visible to everyone or hidden for specific members. Communities can also be displayed either as a single expandable conversation or as separate chats, helping users manage their chat list more efficiently.
By default, communities are collaborative, enabling members to add new chats, although administrators can restrict this capability through community settings.
Ephemeral Bot Messages
Telegram has expanded its bot capabilities with Ephemeral Bot Messages, allowing bots in group chats to send messages that are visible only to the intended user. These private interactions can include welcome messages, AI-generated summaries, confirmations, error notifications, menus and other bot responses, preventing unnecessary clutter in group conversations. Bots can send ephemeral messages automatically or in response to dedicated commands, giving developers greater flexibility to build interactive and privacy-focused experiences.
350 Million GIFs
Telegram has significantly upgraded its GIF experience by enabling users to search through more than 350 million GIFs across 36 languages.
The new search engine is powered by offline indexing of publicly available GIFs using open-source AI models, ensuring that GIF searches remain fast, private and independent of third-party services. Unlike many messaging platforms, Telegram does not share users’ GIF searches with external providers.
