PLUSS-Polymers-logoNew Delhi, India, May 22, 2014: PLUSS Polymers, a material research and manufacturing company, in association with Advit Foundation arranged an educational session on electronic waste management to spread awareness about the impact of electronic waste on our health and environment while emphasising the need for its safe disposal. This session was held on the 26th of April 2014, in Kunskapsskolan School Sector 28, Gurgaon, Haryana.

The vibrant session was intended to educate the teachers and the administrative staff of the school who would pass on the collected information to the students and encourage them to participate in a collective drive to deal with e-waste.

Managing Director of PLUSS Polymers Samit Jain said, “The social responsibility that we have undertaken does not end with one or two sessions. It is a continuous endeavour to spread awareness and also take measurable actions to make the world a better place to live in.”

The e-waste management programme covered various topics like the nature of e-waste, types of e-waste, e-waste scenario, where the e-waste ends up, its impact on human health, why and how to recycle e-waste, challenges associated with recycling e-waste and PLUSS Polymers role in the whole process. The event included various activities to keep the teachers and school staff engaged and entertained while being educated. There were interactive talks with presentations, short movie screenings on electronic waste, Q&A sessions and discussions.

Samit Jain, also added, “Such sessions are very important as they inculcate a sense of responsibility amongst students who are the future of our society. Education on saving the environment should be imparted right from the school as this is where the foundation of life principles is laid.”

After the sessions were conducted, collection bins were installed on every floor of the school. The e-waste collection process will continue for a month. Following this, the collected e-waste will be sent to an authorised e-waste recycler for recycling or safe disposal. The workshop was attended by 40-50 staff members and teachers. Many of the participants expressed an interest in carrying out a similar awareness and collection drive in their housing societies and residential colonies.
