New government has opportunity to spur India’s digital economy: BSA

BSA-LogoNew Delhi, India, May 27, 2014: BSA, The Software Alliance today welcomed the formation of a cabinet in the newly elected Government of India and looked forward to working with ministries of jurisdiction to accelerate the country’s digital economy and create a conducive environment for software innovation.

BSA President and CEO Victoria Espinel said, “With its large, highly skilled workforce and robust investment in research and development, India is well positioned to be a global leader in technology innovation. We congratulate the Prime Minister Modi on the new government’s forward-looking agenda for economic growth.” 

“We believe that ensuring there is a favorable policy framework for software-driven innovation will be an important element to the success of the government’s agenda,” Espinel said. “There is an opportunity to continue improving India’s regulatory and policy framework for cloud computing, data analytics and other major drivers of growth throughout the IT economy. We also look forward to working with Shri Ravi Shankar Prasad and the Communications and Information Technology Ministry to promote appropriate intellectual property rights and protections.”
